Tavern Talk #22: Feel Pressure?

Updated: Jun 24, 2020

Pressure. We all feel it every day. It varies in strength, duration, and intensity. And it comes from a host of sources – friends, family, bosses, coworkers, social media, advertising, parents, siblings, peers, authority figures, etc.

Pressure can be good or pressure can be bad. And even good pressure can be bad (too much of a good thing). But most of the pressure we feel is only that which we allow. We choose to permit the pressure to be inflicted on us or better yet, for it to have an impact on us.

And we exert pressure on others. Again, the pressure can be good or bad. It can be intentional or unintentional, known or unknown, explicit or implicit, direct or indirect, subtle or blatant.

God doesn’t put pressure on us. Our relationship with God is totally up to us. But regardless of what we allow to influence us, regardless of how much pressure we put on ourselves, regardless of how much pain is inflicted on us, God is there to help. Through our relationship with God, we can endure whatever we need to endure and can obtain relief when we need it.
